Shaka brings Latin rhythms, expressive piano arrangements and disco house grooves to Blur Records, with Hotmood and Scruscru delivering two contrasting remixes.
Blur Records continues its exploration of soulful, disco-influenced house music with “My Feet On The Move”, a four-track EP from Shaka that marks the producer’s vinyl debut on the label. Featuring two original productions alongside remixes from Hotmood and Scruscru, the release draws heavily on Latin musical traditions, combining live-sounding instrumentation with the rhythmic foundations of contemporary house music.
The title track immediately establishes that direction with a loose, swinging groove built around Latin percussion and strong, expressive piano chords. Rich brass sections gradually join the arrangement, bringing additional warmth and musical colour before the track opens up into a particularly impressive, virtuosic piano solo. There’s a genuine sense of movement throughout, with the interplay between the percussion, piano and horns giving the production a lively, almost celebratory quality.
Hotmood takes those ingredients and steers them towards a more energetic dancefloor setting. The Mexican producer strengthens the rhythmic foundations with punchy four-to-the-floor drums, while chopped-up piano loops and sharp, hissing percussion bring a more driving quality to the arrangement. The additional weight gives the remix greater urgency without completely sacrificing the musical character of Shaka’s original, making it an appealing alternative for DJs looking to raise the energy.
On the reverse, “The Sequel To The Latin Love Affair” offers a richer, more relaxed interpretation of the EP’s Latin influences. It’s a colourful production filled with piano melodies, warm trumpet passages and layers of Latin percussion, all moving comfortably above a bulbous bassline and soft, understated kick drum. Rather than pushing towards a conventional peak-time house arrangement, Shaka allows the instrumentation and rhythmic interplay to carry the track, creating a groove that feels equally suited to an early evening dancefloor or a more laid-back listening environment.
Scruscru rounds off the EP with a remix that introduces a more pronounced disco influence while remaining sympathetic to the original composition. The drums are given additional weight, supported by a collection of nicely judged disco-flavoured effects and rhythmic fills that add movement to the arrangement. The Russian producer retains the warmth and Latin character of Shaka’s production but gives it a slightly more contemporary disco house identity, offering another useful variation without straying too far from the source material.
What makes “My Feet On The Move” particularly appealing is the musical consistency running through all four tracks. The Latin percussion, expressive keyboard work and brass arrangements provide a recognisable foundation, while the two remixers approach that material from different directions. Hotmood concentrates on energy and rhythmic impact, whereas Scruscru brings a subtler disco sensibility to the proceedings.
It’s an enjoyable and musically rich EP that should appeal to DJs working across soulful house, Latin house and the warmer end of disco. With its emphasis on instrumentation and groove, “My Feet On The Move” feels entirely at home on Blur Records, while introducing Shaka as a producer with a clear appreciation for the musical traditions that continue to shape house music.
