Rue Jay and Kim Fai join forces on a peak-time house anthem, blending disco heritage, diva vocals and uplifting piano energy into a feel-good dancefloor weapon.
Birmingham’s Rue Jay has quietly built an impressive reputation over the last few years, earning support from BBC Radio 1, Pete Tong and Armin van Buuren while releasing on labels including Perfect Havoc, Wh0 Plays and Stashed Music. Joining forces with UK house stalwart Kim Fai, whose piano-led productions and Toolroom catalogue have made him a familiar name on dancefloors worldwide, the pair deliver an infectious slice of uplifting house that proudly wears its influences on its sleeve.
“Let Me Tell U Something” is unapologetically built for the dancefloor. Twisted disco loops, driving percussion and a weighty bassline immediately lock into an irresistible groove before soaring string arrangements lift the energy another notch. It’s one of those records that feels tailor-made for hands-in-the-air moments without ever becoming over-produced or cluttered.
Sharp-eared house heads will immediately recognise the unmistakable nod to Bob Sinclar’s “I Feel For You”, itself famously inspired by Cerrone’s 1978 disco classic “Look For Love”. Whether directly referencing one or drawing from both, Rue Jay and Kim Fai cleverly reinterpret that timeless musical motif, giving it fresh life within a modern house framework rather than simply relying on nostalgia.
The vocal is another standout feature. Built around the unmistakable “They call me an Aquarius…” refrain from First Choice’s legendary “Let No Man Put Asunder”, it injects an unmistakable sense of soul into the production. Rather than dominating the record, the vocal is used sparingly and effectively, allowing the groove and instrumentation to breathe while delivering maximum impact when it returns.
What impresses most is the balance between old and new. There are plenty of classic references throughout, but the production never feels like an edit or a throwback. The drums hit with contemporary punch, the low-end carries real weight and the arrangement constantly builds towards euphoric peaks without losing sight of the groove that underpins everything.
“Let Me Tell U Something” is exactly the sort of record that reminds us why disco continues to provide such fertile ground for house music producers. Respectful of its roots but confidently aimed at today’s dancefloors, it’s a powerful collaboration that delivers plenty of energy, personality and feel-good spirit.
