Moodena returns to Tropical Disco Records alongside Hugo C for a funky ride of sax, keys and live instrumentation on “One Night In Clapton”.

Purveyor of the funkier side of house music, Moodena has been a stalwart of the sound for over a decade. Since launching Tropical Disco Records alongside Sartorial back in 2018, the UK DJ and producer has gone on to release on labels including Z Records, Midnight Riot, Nervous Records and Big Love.

Joining him for “One Night In Clapton” is producer Hugo C, whose own profile has been steadily rising through releases on Bobby & Steve’s Groove Odyssey, DJ Spen’s Quantize Recordings and now Tropical Disco.

“One Night In Clapton” eases nicely into sets at 118bpm. Sitting within a steady 4/4 drum arrangement, layered with subtle fills, off-kilter top percussion and low-slung stepping basslines, the groove is strong from the off.

The real magic, though, comes from the instrumentation.

Dazzling key solos, brass sections and soaring Philly-esque strings all make an appearance, but the star of the show is a sax solo that the Mizell Brothers would be proud to have in one of their productions.

It’s funky without becoming overly busy, and at 118bpm there’s enough space around everything for those musical elements to really breathe.

More classy, dare we say nu-disco from Moodena, and a hefty leg-up for Hugo C, who is now firmly on our radar.
