Dimitri from Paris is back in the edit suite, and this time he’s turning his disco-drenched gaze on Millie Jackson’s sultry 1979 classic “We Got To Hit It Off.”
The ‘Dimitri from Paris Liberated Woman Mix’ respects the original’s smoky atmosphere, teasing out Millie’s seductive vocal lines with a patient, luxurious intro built on crisp drums, warm Rhodes stabs, and velvet-sheen strings. It’s the kind of extended mix that DJs dream of — giving the dancefloor time to simmer before the full vocal drops and the room leans in. The groove is thick, but never heavy-handed, sliding effortlessly into that sweet spot between soulful house and deep disco.
The ‘Dimitri from Paris Liberated Woman Dub’ leans into a dubbier zone, stripping things back for a heads-down, late-night vibe. It’s all about the groove here: tight guitar chops, rubbery basslines, and filtered string loops that swirl and breathe as the track unfolds. There’s just enough of Millie’s vocal ad-libs to keep the personality intact, but this one’s made for the mixers — perfect for layering or riding out in a long blend.
What really shines across both versions is Dimitri’s surgical attention to detail. He doesn’t modernize ‘We Got To Hit It Off’ with cheap tricks — he simply amplifies its essence for today’s floors. Think Body & Soul, Defected Glitterbox, or SuncéBeat moments: full of soul, but mixed for movement. At this point we really have to say a nod to Tom Trago for his 2012 rework of the original that Carl Craig turned into a forever anthem for us!
A velvet-gloved love letter to disco, massaged into house music form by one of the genre’s true stylists. Millie Jackson’s fire meets Dimitri’s finesse — and yes, we definitely got to hit it off. Pre order here for a vinyl release and it’s already out on digital here.
