Italian house veteran DJ Soch makes an impressive debut on WOLF Music with a four-track EP that perfectly captures the label’s long-standing love affair with soulful, deep and dancefloor-focused house music.
Few labels have built a reputation as consistently strong as WOLF Music. Over the years, the London imprint has become a trusted home for producers who understand that groove, soul and musicality never go out of fashion. DJ Soch‘s “Let Me Tell You EP” feels right at home in that catalogue, delivering four cuts that balance classic house influences with enough personality to stand firmly on their own.
The title track immediately explains why WOLF signed the release. “Let Me Tell You” is one of those records that grabs your attention from the opening bars. Skipping drums lock into a weighty bassline while warm keys and rich church organ chords create an unmistakably uplifting atmosphere. Above it all, a soulful male vocal pleads with genuine emotion, adding another layer of warmth to an already irresistible groove. It’s powerful without becoming overblown, soulful without losing its dancefloor focus, and effortlessly evokes the spiritual energy that made clubs such as New York’s Shelter legendary.
The accompanying “Power Mix” wisely takes a different route rather than simply extending the original. By reducing the vocal and allowing the organ work to take centre stage, DJ Soch transforms the track into a late-night weapon built for dancers rather than singers. The groove becomes even more hypnotic, while the organ drives everything forward with gospel-infused intensity. It’s easy to imagine Timmy Regisford reaching for something like this during one of his marathon sets.
Flipping to the B-side, “Chewing Gum” shifts the mood without losing momentum. This is stripped-back, heads-down deep house built around hypnotic repetition, subtle movement and a groove that quietly gets under your skin. Rather than relying on obvious hooks, DJ Soch demonstrates patience, allowing the arrangement to evolve naturally while trusting the rhythm to do the heavy lifting.
Prince Palmer’s remix provides an excellent closing statement. Leaning into the unmistakable swing of mid-’90s US garage, he injects extra bounce and colour while preserving the hypnotic core of the original. Warm chords, crisp percussion and expertly judged vocal touches create a remix that feels like a loving tribute to the golden years of labels such as Strictly Rhythm without ever becoming a pastiche.
What makes the EP particularly enjoyable is DJ Soch’s obvious understanding of house music’s foundations. Having spent more than four decades immersed in the culture, his productions don’t feel like nostalgic recreations. Instead, they draw naturally from Chicago, Detroit and New York while remaining fresh enough for contemporary dancefloors.
For WOLF Music, this is another excellent addition to an already formidable catalogue. For DJ Soch, it feels like the beginning of what will hopefully become a long and fruitful relationship with one of underground house music’s most respected labels.
Soulful, deep and overflowing with dancefloor credibility, the “Let Me Tell You EP” is another reminder that timeless house music will always find its audience.
