A soulful rework of Aretha Franklin’s timeless classic, blending afro percussion, warm house grooves and uplifting energy.

Brazilian producer Azee Project is a new discovery for us, but this inspired reimagining of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” immediately grabbed our attention. While his catalogue is packed with edits and remixes of soul favourites, this one stands out for the way it balances reverence for the original with a fresh, dancefloor-friendly approach.

Built around layers of rolling afro percussion and a rich, bulbous bassline, the groove locks in from the opening bars. Warm organ melodies add depth and emotion before Franklin’s unmistakable vocal arrives, bringing all the power, attitude and soul that made the original such an enduring classic.

What makes this remix particularly effective is its restraint. Rather than overwhelming the source material, Azee Project allows the groove to breathe, creating a feel-good house record that feels natural, musical and genuinely uplifting.

A classy reinterpretation that pays tribute to one of soul music’s greatest voices while giving DJs and dancers something fresh to enjoy.
