Tasty beat maker Johannes Albert is back on our stereo with the disco loving ‘Golden Seconds Vol.1’.

There is something refreshingly uncomplicated about Johannes Albert’s new Golden Seconds project. No overthinking, no heavy concepts, just a clear love letter to the uplifting, sample-heavy disco house sound that dominated countless dancefloors throughout the 90s and early 2000s.

As the Berlin producer himself puts it, “sometimes all it takes to make a room go bang is a beat and a sample”, and that philosophy runs through every groove on Golden Seconds Vol. I.

Best known for his work through Frank Music and years spent deeply embedded within Berlin’s club circuit, Johannes Albert has always balanced musicality with dancefloor instinct. Here though, he fully leans into the warmer, more playful side of House music, drawing heavily from the lineage of disco-filtered grooves pioneered by names like DJ Sneak and JohNick.

Opening track Beach Reach immediately sets the tone with sun-drenched loops, rolling percussion and an irresistible groove that feels purpose-built for open-air dancefloors and late-night terrace sessions. The sampling feels lovingly handled rather than overly polished, capturing the raw charm that made early disco house records so effective in the first place.

The Prance pushes slightly deeper into chunky, swinging territory. Funk-laden basslines, chopped vocal snippets and driving drum programming all combine into something that feels timeless rather than retro. There is a looseness to the groove that gives the track real character.

Closing cut 3001 Larkin Way rounds the EP off perfectly with another warm and hypnotic disco-house workout. Subtle filtering, soulful loops and understated arrangement shifts allow the groove to gradually unfold without ever losing momentum.

What makes Golden Seconds Vol. I work so well is its understanding of simplicity. Johannes Albert does not try to reinvent disco house here. Instead, he embraces the genre’s core strengths: groove, repetition, warmth and pure dancefloor energy.

At a time when a lot of House music feels increasingly polished and formulaic, there is something genuinely enjoyable about hearing tracks that simply want to make people move and smile.

A wonderfully feel-good vinyl release packed full of groove and nostalgia without becoming trapped in the past. Available now on Bandcamp here.
