There’s something beautifully unhurried about the world Lucky Sun continues to build as he takes Anna Ling’s perfect vocal on a journey of ethereal sound.

Across his productions, remixes and releases through Lucky Sun Recordings, Tom Lown has steadily carved out a sound that exists somewhere between deep house, Balearic downtempo, trip hop and late-night headphone escapism. It’s music driven less by trends and more by feeling. That same warmth and emotional depth shines brightly once again on his remix of Anna Ling’s ‘BTTFL’.

Short for ‘Beauty To The Fading Light’, the original composition already carries a deeply cinematic quality. Anna Ling’s voice floats with almost ghostly elegance throughout, wrapped in rich harmonies, delicate strings, oboe flourishes and organic percussion that feel rooted equally in contemporary folk and dreamlike ambient electronica. There’s a fragility to it that immediately draws you inward.

Rather than overpowering those qualities, Lucky Sun wisely leans into them.

His remix gently reshapes the rhythmic framework, moving between the original’s flowing 12/8 feel and a slower, more spacious trip hop groove built around his own live-recorded drums. The result feels incredibly natural, almost as though the track is drifting between two states of consciousness. Warm chords, subtle low-end movements and stretched vocal harmonies create a hazy, nocturnal atmosphere that gives the instrumentation room to breathe.

The beauty lies in the restraint.

At no point does the remix feel overworked or eager to force itself toward the dancefloor. Instead, it unfolds patiently, allowing Anna Ling’s voice and songwriting to remain the emotional centrepiece whilst Lucky Sun colours around the edges with textured production and understated groove work.

Fans of Café Del Mar styled listening, early Zero 7, Nightmares On Wax, Bonobo or the deeper end of downtempo electronica will find plenty to lose themselves in here. Yet there’s also a distinctly modern emotional openness running throughout that stops it feeling nostalgic or overly referential.

Anna Ling herself continues to emerge as a fascinating artist. Her ability to balance intimacy, mythology and storytelling gives her music a rare sincerity, whilst Lucky Sun once again proves why his productions continue to resonate so strongly within the deeper Balearic and chillout underground.

‘BTTFL (Lucky Sun Remix)’ is not simply a remix. It feels more like a late-night reimagining, a slow motion conversation between folk intimacy and electronic atmosphere.

Beautifully understated and quietly transporting. Pre order will become available here for a May 29th release.
