Paris meets Chicago in the ‘Visions Of Love’ EP from Lucas Moinet that lands on To The Rock this June.
There is a certain type of House record that does not feel manufactured for algorithms or quick dancefloor reactions. Instead, it feels lived in. Built from years of listening, collecting and understanding where the music came from in the first place. Lucas Moinet’s Visions Of Love EP sits firmly in that territory.
Born in Paris but drawing deeply from the lineage of Chicago, Detroit and New York House, Moinet has steadily built a catalogue through projects like Keraw, Groove Boys Project and Projecture that feels rooted in the foundations of the culture rather than passing trends. That understanding runs throughout this four-track release on To The Rock.
Opening cut Larry Vickers At The Loft immediately sets the tone with a lush and warm deep house groove full of high string arrangements, plunging piano chords and delicate glockenspiel melodies. Female vocal ad-libs drift in and out of the mix, adding just enough soul without overcrowding the groove. It feels reflective of the title too, carrying the kind of atmosphere associated with classic Loft-era dancefloors.
Playin 4 The Stars lifts the energy slightly, bringing bubbling basslines, skipping drum patterns and rich brass melodies into play. There is a looseness to the groove that keeps everything moving naturally, avoiding the overly rigid feel many modern deep house productions fall into.
The EP’s title track, Visions Of Love Deeper Dub, heads further into late-night territory. Whirling synth work, low-slung grooves and subtle P-Funk leaning textures give the track a hypnotic quality that feels designed for darker rooms and longer sets. It is probably the EP’s deepest moment, but also one of its strongest.
Closing things out, Archives From The Past slows the pace slightly with a more stripped-back groove built around classic vocal snippets, shifting synth work and understated funk elements. There is a softness to the track that rounds the EP off perfectly.
What makes Visions Of Love stand out is its sense of authenticity. None of this feels forced or overly polished. It is House music made by somebody clearly immersed in the culture and its history, but without becoming trapped in nostalgia.
A beautifully understated release full of warmth, groove and genuine understanding. Expected on vinyl via To The Rock around June 12th. Pre order here.
