The Watching Back EP brings together four tracks that balance warmth and groove with a clean, contemporary finish.
Rooted in soulful house and disco-leaning textures, Marina Trench continues to refine her sound through her Sweet State imprint, following a steady run of releases across labels like Wolf Music, Heist and Deeply Rooted. Lets take a look at her new EP ‘Watching Back’.
What I Do opens on a slower, more introspective tip, built around deep bass, hazy vocals and washed chords. It gradually unfolds into a late-night groove that leans more towards patience than direct impact.
Get High (If You’re Looking for Love) shifts into a more familiar soulful house space, with offbeat drums, warm low-end and a looping vocal line that keeps things locked in. It works comfortably as a mid-set option without pushing too far forward.
Shake Zone feat. Yaje introduces a brighter feel, combining disco-influenced basslines with rhythmic chords and more prominent vocals. It stands out as the most immediate track on the EP, with a wider and more uplifting energy.
The Instrumental Club Mix closes the release with a tighter, more club-focused approach. Punchier drums and a rolling bassline carry the track, while a euphoric synth line pushes it further into peak-time territory.
A well-rounded and cohesive EP that stays focused on groove and musicality throughout, offering enough range to cover multiple points in a set.
The ‘Watching Back’ EP is out on Sweet State from May 8th, 2025. The first single ‘What I Do’ is out now here.
