Madonna returns to the dancefloor with “I Feel So Free”, the first taste of her upcoming Confessions II project, and it’s clear from the outset that this is a deliberate step back into club territory.
Produced alongside Stuart Price, the architect behind the original Confessions On A Dancefloor, the track leans heavily into a deep, hypnotic groove. Built around a rolling bassline and loop-driven structure, it feels more like a DJ tool than a traditional pop single.
There’s a clear nod to house music’s roots too, with an interpolation of French Kiss woven into the arrangement. It’s a subtle but effective touch, anchoring the track firmly within classic Chicago lineage while still sounding modern enough for today’s floors.
Vocally, Madonna keeps things minimal. The delivery is restrained and almost mantra-like, sitting within the mix rather than dominating it. Lines about trust, escapism and finding freedom through dancing reinforce the track’s underlying theme: the dancefloor as a place of release.
Final thoughts
“I Feel So Free” isn’t chasing radio, and that’s probably the point.
This is Madonna leaning back into her club roots, focusing on groove, repetition and atmosphere over big hooks. It may not be an instant chart hit, but in the right setting, it’s easy to see this one finding a place in DJ sets.
If this is the direction for Confessions II, it suggests a record built for the floor first.
