Defected reveal auction prizes and radio show special as part of year-long partnership with Shelter.

Following the announcement of a 12-month fundraising partnership with UK housing and homelessness charity Shelter in July 2023, Defected now unveil the auction prizes for its first major fundraising activity as well as a special Defected Radio Show dedicated to the cause.

On 16 November Defected’s CEO Wez Saunders will host an exclusive auction night and gala at BAFTA in London’s West End. Auction items will all be open to bids online ahead of the event and include a holiday on a private island, Michelin starred dining, 5* hotel stays, arena tour tickets and plenty of exclusive Defected memorabilia. Fans of the label will be able to bid on items such as Master At Work Louie Vega’s iconic hat, a pair of Defected Radio Show host Sam Divine’s trainers, an awards disc celebrating The Shapeshifters’ iconic ‘Lola’s Theme’ reaching 100,000 radio plays and much more. The complete list of prizes can be found on the official website of the Wez Saunders Foundation. From exclusive music memorabilia to once-in-a-lifetime experiences, the auction promises to offer something for everyone.

Following the Shelter fundraiser at BAFTA on 16 November, Defected will also host an afterparty at London’s Neon 194 on Thursday 16 November with Arielle Free, Fat Tony, Majestic, Melvo Baptiste, Melle Brown, Rudimental and YOURS soundtracking the night. Running from 9.30pm – 3am, fans are able to sign up for access to the party and take part in raising vital funds for Shelter.

As part of raising awareness for the partnership, Defected have also run a special takeover of the internationally syndicated Defected Radio Show, which annually attracts close to 20M listeners from 50+ countries. Hosted by Sam Divine, the two-hour show premiered on Friday 3 November, informing fans of the partnership, the work done by Shelter and ways Defected’s community could engage with the fundraising efforts.

The 12 month-long campaign between Shelter and Defected will involve a range of fundraising activities, galvanising Defected’s dance music community to support people at risk of homelessness and join Shelter’s movement for change.

Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home and fight the devastating impact the housing emergency has on people and society. It does this by providing emergency advice and support and by campaigning for lasting change. Shelter believes that home is everything.

In England, one household becomes homeless every four minutes with 1.2 million households currently on the social housing waiting list. The housing emergency disproportionately affects single mothers and individuals from the LGBTQI+ and Black communities, where gay and lesbian people are twice as likely to be discriminated against and Black people are 70% more likely to be impacted by the housing crisis. Keen to bring attention to these concerning statistics, Defected are proud to support Shelter and this important issue.
