After months circulating through DJ sets, Butch and Santos finally release the much-requested “Come Get Up” on Saved Records.
Some records don’t need to be particularly complicated to make their point. “Come Get Up” is one of them.
A collaboration between Butch and longtime friend Santos, the track has been doing the rounds for months, first attracting serious attention after appearing in Butch’s widely watched “Raw Cuts” set recorded in New York. It subsequently became a regular fixture in his sets throughout the summer, with the inevitable IDs and requests following wherever it appeared.
Now officially released through Saved Records, it’s easy to understand the reaction.
“Come Get Up” is built around a low-slung house groove that immediately feels designed for the business end of a set. The bassline rolls underneath tightly worked percussion while a repetitive, whirring synth motif provides the hook, gradually burrowing its way in rather than fighting for attention.
But it’s the arrangement that really gives the record its impact.
Butch and Santos repeatedly build and release tension, stripping elements away before bringing the groove crashing back in. The breakdowns are big without becoming overly theatrical, and every return carries just enough extra weight to push things forward.
There’s an almost teasing quality to that central synth line. It circles relentlessly through the track, creating anticipation as the drums and bass move around it, before the bigger drops turn what is essentially a relatively simple idea into a proper peak-time moment.
It’s energetic, physical house music with a very clear purpose: get a packed room moving.
The reaction from DJs suggests it’s already doing precisely that. Nic Fanciulli has described it as the biggest record in his sets at the moment, while Carl Cox, Skream, Pete Tong, Radio Slave, Enzo Siragusa, Franky Rizardo, Mind Against and Danny Howard are among those supporting it. Bambounou has apparently been playing a premaster for months.
Five days after release, it had already reached the top five of Beatport’s House chart, completing the journey from heavily requested set ID to one of the more visible house releases of the moment.
There are no unnecessary complications here. A rolling bassline, an earworm synth, plenty of tension and some very well judged drops.
Sometimes that’s exactly what a dancefloor needs.
