Chris Coco and DJ Rocca unite for a beautifully crafted four-track release that effortlessly blurs the lines between Balearic, deep house and downtempo soul.

Few artists have done more to champion the Balearic sound over the last three decades than Chris Coco. Whether through his productions, radio shows or countless sunset soundtracks, he has consistently demonstrated that great dance music isn’t defined by tempo or genre, but by atmosphere and emotion. Teaming up with Italian producer DJ Rocca, another long-standing master of leftfield house and cosmic disco, the pair deliver a release that feels both timeless and unmistakably Mediterranean.

Opening the EP, DJ Rocca’s Italo Mix of “Echoes In My Mind” immediately wraps the listener in warm analogue textures, rolling percussion and dreamy synthesiser melodies. Sitting somewhere between classic Italian dream house and Balearic house, it’s a record that never rushes its destination, allowing every element room to breathe while maintaining an effortlessly hypnotic groove.

Chris Coco’s own Vocal Mix shifts the focus towards deeper house territory. Rich basslines, shimmering pads and subtle nu-disco influences provide the perfect backdrop for the vocal, resulting in a production that’s equally suited to sunset terraces and intimate late-night dancefloors. As always, Coco’s greatest strength lies in knowing exactly what not to add, allowing space and restraint to become part of the music itself.

Flip the record over and “Mama Sol Mama Africa” explores another side of the duo’s musical palette. African-inspired percussion, fluttering flutes and warm Rhodes chords intertwine beautifully to create a laid-back, organic groove that feels both spiritual and transportive. Rather than borrowing superficial influences, the production allows the rhythmic elements to develop naturally, creating a piece that’s rich in texture without ever becoming overcrowded.

The accompanying Dub is arguably the sleeper of the package. Stripped back and full of intricate percussion, spacious effects and carefully layered details, it rewards repeated listening and offers DJs a wonderfully versatile tool capable of drifting between Balearic, downtempo and deeper house sets.

At a time when many producers chase louder drops and bigger hooks, Echoes In My Mind / Mama Sol Mama Africa succeeds by doing the opposite. It’s patient, musical and beautifully understated, reminding us that some of the most memorable dance music is often the kind that quietly draws you in rather than demanding your attention.
