A soulful collection of remixes that elevates Louie Vega’s modern classic into deeper, richer and more expansive territory.

Few artists have championed soulful dance music with the consistency and passion of Louie Vega. Originally appearing on his acclaimed Expansions In The NYC album, “Touch The Sky” featuring Tony Momrelle was already one of the standout vocal moments from a project that celebrated New York’s rich musical heritage. Now the track returns with a fresh set of remixes courtesy of Japan’s Masaki Morii and Brooklyn duo Musclecars, each bringing their own unique perspective while preserving the uplifting spirit of the original.

Masaki Morii steps up first with a beautifully crafted interpretation that sits somewhere between soulful, deep and Afro house. Feather-light percussion, warm musical textures and uplifting melodies provide the perfect backdrop for Tony Momrelle’s heartfelt vocal performance. It’s a remix built on emotion rather than excess, allowing the song’s message to breathe while delivering plenty of dancefloor appeal. The accompanying dub and instrumental versions explore different corners of the arrangement, highlighting the musicality that has become a hallmark of Morii’s productions.

The second half of the release belongs to Musclecars, who continue to cement their reputation as one of the most exciting names in contemporary house music. Their expansive ten-minute remix transforms “Touch The Sky” into a deeply immersive journey, rich with organic percussion, jazz-influenced flourishes and soulful energy. The arrangement unfolds patiently, rewarding listeners with layer upon layer of musical detail while Tony Momrelle’s soaring vocal remains the emotional centrepiece.

Particularly impressive is the way Musclecars balance dancefloor functionality with genuine musicianship. Pianos, synths and percussion weave effortlessly around one another, creating a sense of movement that feels both uplifting and deeply human. Their accompanying dub version takes a slightly tougher route, introducing chunkier drums and a more stripped-back groove perfect for late-night sessions, while the instrumental allows the intricate production work to take centre stage.

What makes this package so successful is that neither remixer attempts to reinvent the original. Instead, both Masaki Morii and Musclecars build upon its foundations, drawing out different emotional and musical qualities while staying true to the song’s uplifting message.

For lovers of soulful house, deep house and the timeless New York sound that Louie Vega has spent decades perfecting, this is a remix package that delivers on every level.
