Gorgon City step up to rework one of Basement Jaxx’s most explosive club cuts with a remix of Jump N Shout.
There are certain records that instantly transport you back to a very particular feeling on the dancefloor, and Basement Jaxx’s Jump N Shout has always been one of those tracks. Chaotic, raw and packed full of personality, the original carried that unmistakable late 90s UK club energy that helped define an era.
Now Gorgon City take the reins for Toolroom and deliver a remix that feels respectful to the source material whilst still sounding built for modern systems.
Importantly, they do not overcomplicate things.
The iconic vocal hooks remain front and centre throughout, immediately triggering that rush of familiarity, while the duo wrap everything inside one of their trademark rolling bass-driven grooves. Thick low-end pressure, crisp percussion and tightly controlled builds give the remix a much sleeker and more contemporary framework without losing the fun and character that made the original so beloved in the first place.
What works particularly well here is the balance between old and new.
There are clear nods to UK garage, rave and classic Basement Jaxx madness running through the track, but Gorgon City sharpen the edges enough to make it feel perfectly suited for current peak-time club sets. The breakdowns are big without feeling overproduced, the groove remains locked throughout, and the bassline carries that unmistakable weight that has made Gorgon City such dependable dancefloor operators over the last decade.
Toolroom also clearly understand the enduring power of this record. Much like Erik Hagleton’s hugely successful 2016 remix, this new version feels destined to become another reliable secret weapon for DJs wanting something that bridges generations of club culture.
For older heads, it taps directly into that turn-of-the-millennium UK club euphoria. For newer crowds, it simply lands as a heavyweight modern club roller with huge hooks and undeniable energy.
A smart, effective and very playable remix that keeps the spirit of Basement Jaxx alive whilst giving the track fresh legs for 2026 dancefloors.
