Greg Wilson’s ever-dependable A&R Edits returns with two funk classics, reworked for the floor by Ian Ossia and Che & Matica.
Launched in 2013, A&R Edits has long been a destination for lovers of reworks and edits. The vinyl-only imprint has delivered fresh takes on iconic tracks over the years, from ‘Buffalo Stance’ to Herb Alpert’s ‘Rise’, alongside standout cuts like Moplen’s edit of Tavares’ ‘It Only Takes A Minute’ and Seal’s ‘Crazy’. After a five-year hiatus, the series is back.
Leeds legend Ian Ossia steps up first with a rework of The Temptations’ ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone’. He beefs up the drums, chops the unmistakable bassline and stretches the main riff with spaced-out echoes and delays, giving it a tougher, more club-ready feel while keeping the soul intact.
Che & Matica follow with a subtle rework of Crown Heights Affair’s ‘Dreaming A Dream’. Here, the groove is gently reinforced with steady drums, allowing the intergalactic synths and vocals to remain front and centre.
Final thoughts
Two functional edits that do exactly what they need to.
Built for disco and funk sets, these are the kind of tools that slip easily into the bag.
