French house royalty revisit a timeless classic, proving elegance, emotion and groove never age.
Few records capture the emotional pull of French house quite like Intro. First released in 2000, Alan Braxe and Fred Falke’s masterpiece distilled melancholy, warmth and dancefloor poise into under five minutes of pure magic. Twenty five years on, this anniversary edition feels less like a nostalgia exercise and more like a reminder of just how forward thinking the original still sounds.
The 2023 remaster, included here, remains utterly flawless. That rolling bassline, the gentle chord progression and the soft sense of longing still hit with the same weight they did at the turn of the millennium. It is understated yet deeply emotional dance music, built for late nights and introspective moments on the floor.
Fred Falke’s new remix takes the track into deeper, more cosmic territory. A newly recorded bassline adds a dubby, psychedelic edge, stretching the original’s mood into something hazier and more exploratory. The groove unfolds patiently, designed for longer blends and deeper sets, while still retaining the emotional DNA that made Intro so special in the first place.
Alan Braxe’s remix heads in a different direction. Raw, rough around the edges and intentionally stripped back, it leans into the lo fi charm and DIY spirit of early French house. Described by Braxe as a “hotel room edit”, it sparkles with grit and attitude, offering a club ready version that feels immediate, personal and full of character.
What makes this release stand out is the respect shown to the source material. Rather than over polishing or modernising for the sake of it, both remixes expand the world of Intro with care and restraint. This is how you revisit a classic. With love, skill and a clear understanding of why it mattered in the first place.
Intro (25th Anniversary) is not just a celebration of a landmark record, but a masterclass in timeless dance music. Elegant, emotional and endlessly playable, it remains essential listening for house music lovers old and new.
