Trip hop pioneers Massive Attack set to return with a collection of unreleased recordings, but not on Spotify.
Massive Attack have announced new music arriving in 2026. The group will release a cache of previously unreleased material created in the recent past, marking a significant moment for fans who have been waiting for a substantial project since the Eutopia EP in 2020 and the Heligoland album in 2010.
The Bristol innovators confirmed that this upcoming body of work will be released both physically and digitally through a new label. As part of the announcement, they also revealed that their new material will not appear on Spotify. The band have instructed their label to remove their entire existing catalogue from the platform in response to concerns about the company’s leadership and financial links to defence related AI technology. Massive Attack described the situation as a moral burden and stated that fan support should not fuel harmful technological development.
To give fans direct access to updates, the group have launched an official WhatsApp channel. This will serve as the central space for announcements about the new music, special performances and other activity in the lead up to the release.
The band are also preparing for a major live appearance at London’s LIDO Festival in 2025. Their performance will be part of a fully battery powered day designed to highlight sustainable approaches to large scale events. The show is being created with long time collaborators United Visual Artists and is expected to deliver Massive Attack’s trademark blend of immersive sound and striking visual design.
With new material finally on the horizon and a renewed sense of purpose behind their decisions, Massive Attack’s 2026 return looks set to be one of the most important electronic music stories of the year. Knights of the Turntable will be following every development as the next chapter unfolds.
