South Soul Symphony return to UK label Hot Stuff with ‘The Music’ and enlist Jay Vegas to bring home the disco sample goodness.

Virtually impossible to find out who exactly South Soul Symphony are other than they have released on Hot Stuff consistently since about 2018, and Jay Vegas always seemingly has a hand in the release, so possibly one of his aliases; not quite sure. But Jay is a producer we have admired for quite some time.

There aren’t many producers in today’s house scene whose sound you can pick out instantly, but Jay Vegas is one of them. From his early days as a session keyboardist in the 90s, penning the iconic piano riff on K-Klass’s remix of Bobby Brown’s Two Can Play That Game, through to releases on labels like Subliminal, Guesthouse and Toolroom, Jay has carved out a reputation for his signature twisted disco groove. With support from heavyweights like Mark Knight, Grant Nelson, David Morales and Mousse T, plus a string of Traxsource chart-toppers on his own Hot Stuff Records, Jay’s music has become a staple on dancefloors worldwide. Now he returns with his latest remix of South Soul Symphony’s ‘The Music’, bringing that unmistakable funk-driven energy front and centre.

‘The Music’ is centred around a nice chopped up sample of Love Committee’s 1978 ‘Just As Long As I Got You’ that was sampled by Gusto also years ago on ‘Headbanger’. The drums and chunky, there’s added disco effects, cool vocal chops and that fantastic string arrangement of the original. A real hands in the air, disco affair this one!
