Nic Fanciulli returns to Defected with “Hold On”, a vocal house track that leans into smooth production and measured songwriting.
Teaming up with Marc E. Bassy, whose work with Louie Vega and The Martinez Brothers introduced him to the house world, Nic Fanciulli delivers a track that prioritises subtle groove and clarity over bold gestures.
The foundation is clean and well-structured with crisp percussion, a steady low-end, and tasteful melodic layers that support Bassy’s polished vocal. His delivery has a laid-back confidence, carrying the topline without overpowering the track’s more restrained energy.
Where past collaborations like “Set Me Free” leaned more directly into peak-time territory, “Hold On” sits in a slightly different space, functional and versatile, more suited to warm-ups, after-hours, or playlists that value control and flow over explosive impact.
With his ongoing work through the Saved imprint and a packed 2025 schedule including Defected’s Pacha residency and festival appearances, Fanciulli seems to be focusing on consistency and refinement. “Hold On” fits that trajectory, a solid, contemporary house cut that stays within the lines while offering just enough character to stand out.
“Hold On” is out on Defected Records from May 16th, 2025. Pre order here.
