Toronto house figure Abacus released ‘Analog Stories Volume 3’ back in January 2025 and it’s just had a repress, if you missed it the first time around.
Austin “Abacus” Bascom is name treasured in the deep house circles. From the early days of the 90’s, Abacus has been rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ron Trent, Chez Damier and Alton Miller. Whether it’s under his Abacus, A:xus, and Charlie Brown aliases, he has been active in the global house and techno scene for over three decades. Abacus was born and raised in London before becoming a Toronto-based artist crafting and yielding his own sound described as lush, soulful house and downtempo electronica.
The repress of ‘Analog Stories Volume 3’ gave us the opportunity to refresh ourselves with the release. Opening with “It’s Bubbling (Short Stories)” the EP flows into smooth, deep territory, claiming our interest from the off. Lush pads, soulful ad libs and rhythmic drums have us floating into heavenly grooves. ‘Beautiful African Girl’ is a more active, bubbling groove textured with jazzy keys flavoured with acid tones. ‘After The Disco’ (Submariner edit) is a straight up deep house groove, pushed along by beautiful bass lines and more lush pads. ‘Take A Trip’ featuring Keitajuma closes the release with a late night groove that oozes coolness with street poetry, low slung bass lines and ethereal synth melodies.
The ‘Analog Stories Vol 3’ is available on vinyl on Phonogramme here.
