Low slung, gritty grooves from former Bristol aficionado DJ Nature has dropped, even Jan Hammer’s ‘Crockett’s Theme’ gets a rework.

Milo Johnson aka DJ Nature was one of the founding members of the Wild Bunch crew from Bristol, he’s worked with the likes of Nellee Hooper and is considered one of the stalwarts for the Bristol boom that created bands/artists like Massive Attack and Tricky. Johnson eventually moved Japan via New York and became part of the Major Force West hip-hop duo.

There’s been a few releases albeit few and far between on labels like Golf Channel, Ruff Draft, Futureboogie and Hot Biscuit but he’s now returned to Smoke & Mirrors for a second release. This time around the release compromises of two cuts, the first it ‘Until’ a lo-fi, dusty groove with ethereal charms, sultry female vocals and a grooving, shuffling drum line. Jan Hammer’s anthem ‘Crockett’s Theme’ gets an edit on the flip. Boosting the lows with a fat kick and seemingly adding more vibrancy to the perfect synth melodies, this was love at first hear.

The double sided release is out now on Smoke & Mirrors here.
