Marc Cotterell continues to lean into that sweet spot between garage swing and soulful house with Many Changes EP, a release that feels rooted in tradition without sounding dated.

Out on Plastik People, the EP carries that familiar blend of warmth, groove and functionality that has come to define both the label and Cotterell’s output. There is a clear sense of purpose across all four tracks, each one built with the dancefloor in mind but never losing its musical edge.

“Take Your Time” opens things up with loose, garage-leaning drums, warm piano stabs and soulful vocal touches that sit comfortably over a rolling bassline. It is an easy starter, built for early to mid-set moments where groove matters more than impact.

“Mysterious Ex” shifts into a more classic soulful house space. The arrangement is cleaner and more direct, with a light funk running through it that keeps things moving without overcomplication. It is one of the more straightforward cuts on the EP, but that works in its favour.

On the flip, “Feed The Soul” leans further into that New Jersey-inspired sound. Strings take centre stage here, giving the track a fuller, more emotive feel while still keeping the rhythm section tight and club-ready. It taps into early 90s influences without feeling like a throwback.

“This Life Living” closes things out with a familiar vocal lifted from Jill Scott’s “Golden”, reworked into a rolling, feel-good house groove. It is a confident finish, balancing nostalgia with a clean, modern touch.

Across the EP, Cotterell keeps things consistent. Nothing feels overworked, and everything sits comfortably within its lane.

Final thoughts

Many Changes EP does not try to push boundaries. It focuses on groove, familiarity and doing the basics well. A solid, soulful release built for DJs who know where this sound fits. If you dig this, check this heater in a similar lane.
