NYC Afro Latin house mainstay Doug Gomez returns with Signals 2, a groove rich collection blending deep house warmth with percussive dancefloor energy.
New York producer Doug Gomez continues to explore the deeper corners of Afro Latin house with Signals 2, a strong follow up release landing on Merecumbe Recordings. Known for his refined rhythmic approach and musical sensibility, Gomez delivers a tight package of club focused cuts that balance soulful musicality with dancefloor intent.
Opening track Get Down wastes little time establishing the tone of the record. Built around a warm, rolling groove and crisp percussion, the track locks into an irresistibly funky rhythm while subtle keys and bass movement keep the energy simmering. It is the kind of groove that feels instantly comfortable in the mix, designed to build momentum without overwhelming the dancefloor.
The flip brings a welcome reinterpretation courtesy of Tedd Patterson, whose edit of Baby Powda leans heavily into the percussion. Driving drums and tightly layered rhythms push the track firmly into peak time territory, delivering a stripped back yet powerful club weapon that DJs will find easy to reach for when the floor needs lifting.
Closing the release, Gomez links with South African artist Lukamusic on My Life In The Sunshine. Here the mood shifts towards a more soulful and melodic direction. Inspired by the warm jazz funk textures of Roy Ayers, the track floats along with lush synth layers, muted trumpet flourishes and a smooth rhythmic backbone that radiates feel good energy.
Already drawing support from respected selectors such as Louie Vega and DJ Spinna, Signals 2 feels like another confident chapter in Doug Gomez’s catalogue. It is a record that speaks equally to DJs and listeners, combining musical depth with grooves built for the floor.
