Brooklyn link up for a sun-drenched fusion of Afro-boogie, disco and modern club punch on Favorite France.

Five years on from their first collaborative outing via Heist, Peter Matson and JKriv reunite for Facile EP, landing on Favorite France this March. Both artists bring serious pedigree to the table. Matson’s work with Underground System has long explored Afro-disco and live-band energy, while JKriv, co-founder of Razor-N-Tape, has consistently balanced crate-digger authenticity with peak-time functionality. Here, the chemistry feels locked in.

The headline cut, ‘Underappreciated’, is pure retro-futurist Afro-boogie heat. A thick, rolling bassline anchors the groove while punchy horns cut through with sharp, celebratory flair. The percussion is tight and propulsive, leaning into African disco textures without sounding pastiche. Topping it off is a commanding vocal from Ibibio Sound Machine that lifts the track from club weapon to crossover moment. It has that rare combination of musical richness and dancefloor drive, the kind of record that works at sunset and still hits at 2am.

Yuksek steps in on remix duties and flips ‘Underappreciated’ into a throbbing Afro-disco meets Italo hybrid. The low end is beefed up, synth arpeggios shimmer across the top line, and the groove takes on a more electronic urgency. It trades some of the live-band warmth for neon-lit pulse, making it a strong alternative for darker rooms and bigger systems.

The title track ‘Facile’ pivots toward Chic-inspired electrofunk, complete with glossy guitar licks and rubbery bass. Olyvia’s vocal performance rides the groove with confidence, striking a balance between classic disco poise and modern bite. The production is crisp and dynamic, with subtle filter sweeps and layered percussion adding movement without overcrowding the mix.

Closing cut ‘Over Suffa’, featuring Samy Love, injects a playful edge. There’s a gritty undercurrent to the rhythm section, but the topline leans into bubblegum sweetness, creating a colourful nu-disco closer that feels both carefree and club-ready. The drums knock, the synth stabs sparkle, and the arrangement keeps things evolving just enough to maintain momentum.

Across its four tracks, Facile EP feels cohesive yet versatile. Afro-disco warmth, electrofunk gloss and Italo-tinged drive all sit comfortably within the same sonic universe. For DJs, it offers multiple entry points depending on the setting. For listeners, it is a reminder of how effective this Brooklyn pairing can be when blending musicianship with dancefloor instinct.

A confident return that bridges underground credibility and accessible groove with ease. Pre order here.
