With two deeply cherished compilations already in the bag, Luke Una steps up for the third volume in his É Soul Cultura series on Mr Bongo.

Luke Una returns to Mr Bongo with the third instalment of his much-loved É Soul Cultura series, continuing a journey that has already delivered two deeply cherished compilations. Vol. 3 arrives as a powerful statement of intent, celebrating the dancefloor as a space of connection, unity and emotional release at a time when the world feels increasingly divided.

Rooted in Una’s expansive musical philosophy, É Soul Cultura Vol. 3 once again sidesteps the narrow confines of genre. “For me, the dancefloor was never about a one-dimensional, thudding, 130 BPM beat. It’s a much more dynamic, broader vision,” he explains. That ethos runs throughout this latest selection, where each track is chosen not simply to move bodies, but to stir something deeper.

Among the highlights is DJ Harvey’s ‘30 Something’ mix of DJ Food’s Peace, an eight-minute, kickless odyssey that defies dancefloor convention. Its loose-limbed arrangement and cosmic sonics create a transcendental energy that has become a powerful moment in Una’s sets. It is adventurous, unpredictable and utterly immersive.

Elsewhere, Norwich DIY outfit Vital Disorders deliver a post-punk reinterpretation of Fela Kuti’s Zombie. Originally released in 1982, the track twists afrobeat into a wiry, hypnotic groove that feels both rebellious and strangely timeless. It is a reminder of how far-reaching the influence of African rhythm has been across underground music culture.

From there, the compilation stretches outward to Cape Verde with Grupo Serenata’s Sodade, Tem Pena D’Mim, a sultry and infectious groove driven by acoustic guitar, sweeping strings and an unforgettable vocal performance. It is the kind of record that effortlessly bridges soulful listening and dancefloor propulsion.

The full tracklist reads like a global excavation of soulful club sounds:

Igna Igwebuike – Disco Bomp
Janette Renee – What’s On Your Mind (Super Club Remix)

Spanning disco, afrobeat, post-punk, astral jazz and global dance rhythms, É Soul Cultura Vol. 3 reinforces Una’s reputation as a selector with a rare ability to connect eras, scenes and cultures through a singular dancefloor vision.
