Belfast trio Visions of Light deliver a sunset-soaked, introspective reimagining of a timeless New Order classic for NuNorthern Soul.

Taking on Blue Monday is always a bold move, but Visions of Light wisely choose restraint over reinvention. Their version, titled Blue Monday (Lunes Azul), shifts the focus away from the original’s rigid machine funk and into a softer, more atmospheric space that aligns perfectly with the NuNorthern Soul aesthetic.

The Belfast-based trio brings together Simon Sheldon, Muzka and Dan Dub Lounge, three artists united by a shared love of emotive, live-focused electronic music. Sheldon’s decades of production experience, Muzka’s free-flowing DJ sensibility and Dan’s background in bass, psychedelia and ambient music all feed into a sound that feels organic and unforced. This is clearly a collaborative project built on trust and instinct rather than studio trickery.

Here, the tempo is eased back and the familiar melody is allowed to drift rather than drive. Gentle pulses replace the original’s mechanical urgency, while warm pads and widescreen chords create a hazy, late-day atmosphere. The groove is understated but effective, encouraging immersion rather than movement, and rewarding close listening over dancefloor immediacy.

There is a strong sense of space throughout the track. Dubby patience, ambient textures and subtle rhythmic details give the rework a reflective, almost meditative quality. It feels tailor-made for sunset listening, whether that is a terrace, a long drive or a quiet moment away from the noise.

Rather than trying to outdo the original, Visions of Light reframe it with care and confidence. Blue Monday (Lunes Azul)is a thoughtful, respectful rework that finds new emotional depth within a well-known framework. Mellow, expansive and tastefully restrained, it is a fine addition to the NuNorthern Soul catalogue and a strong statement from a trio clearly comfortable letting the music breathe.

Pre order ‘Blue Monday (Lunes Azul)’ here for a January 19th, 2026 release.
