From disco revival to Amnesia Fridays, one of Ibiza’s most joyful parties Glitterbox, enters a new chapter in 2026.
When Glitterbox was first introduced in 2014, it arrived with a clear purpose. Created by Simon Dunmore, founder of Defected Records, the concept was never about chasing trends. It was about restoring feeling to the dancefloor. Disco, house, soul, emotion and inclusivity, all brought together in a space where music and people mattered more than image or hierarchy.
Now, more than a decade on, Glitterbox is preparing for its next evolution. For summer 2026, the party moves to Amnesia Ibiza, taking over Fridays for a 22-date residency from 15 May until 9 October. It is a significant shift, both symbolically and practically, placing one of Ibiza’s most recognisable modern parties inside one of the island’s most historic clubs.
A party built on people, not genres
From the start, Glitterbox positioned itself as more than a club night. It was designed to unite generations, identities and backgrounds through shared dancefloor energy. Disco and house were the foundations, but the real focus was emotion, freedom of expression and joy. That ethos quickly resonated.
Over the years, Glitterbox has welcomed some of the most respected selectors and tastemakers in dance music. DJs such as Armand Van Helden, Honey Dijon, Masters at Work, Jayda G, Moodymann, Purple Disco Machine, Derrick Carter, Horse Meat Disco, Dimitri From Paris and Folamour have all shaped the sound of the party. Alongside them, influential voices like Kiddy Smile, Natasha Diggs, DJ Harvey, Yasmin and DJ Holographic have helped push the culture forward.
Live performances have always been central to the experience. Vocalists including Chaka Khan, Kathy Sledge, Jocelyn Brown, Kathy Brown, Barbara Tucker and Gabriels have transformed club nights into shared, emotional moments. Combined with Glitterbox’s dancers and production, the result has been a party that feels closer to a celebration than a traditional club event.
From Ibiza to the world
While Ibiza has been central to Glitterbox’s identity, the brand has grown far beyond the island. The party has taken its message of joy and inclusivity to venues and festivals across the globe. From Hï Ibiza to London’s Printworks and KOKO, The Warehouse Project, Creamfields, Tomorrowland, Rex Club in Paris, House of Yes in New York, Arca in Brazil, Glastonbury Festival and Sydney’s IVY, Glitterbox has become one of the most recognisable nightlife brands in the world.
Its impact has also extended into the digital space. Live streams from iconic locations such as London’s Royal Albert Hall allowed the party to reach a global audience during moments when dancefloors were closed, reinforcing the idea that Glitterbox is as much about community as it is about physical space.
Where Love Lives
In 2021, Glitterbox released its first documentary, Where Love Lives. A love letter to the dancefloor, the film featured voices from across music and culture including Billy Porter, Honey Dijon, Kathy Sledge, Kiddy Smile and John Jellybean Benitez, alongside Glitterbox performers Lucy Fizz, The Mx Fit and TeTe Bang.
The documentary was picked up by Amazon Prime, received awards at international film festivals and was widely covered by outlets such as the BBC, Resident Advisor, Evening Standard, Gay Times and Elle. It captured the deeper cultural importance of the dancefloor and why spaces like Glitterbox continue to matter.
The label and the airwaves
Alongside the events, Glitterbox has developed into a respected label in its own right, releasing music from artists such as The Shapeshifters, Purple Disco Machine, Cassius, Mousse T., Candi Staton, Kelly G. and Folamour. The sound remains rooted in house and disco, but always with an eye on timeless songwriting and emotional connection.
The weekly Glitterbox Radio Show has become another pillar of the brand, reaching a global community of more than 12 million listeners across 25 countries. Hosted regularly by Melvo Baptiste, the show blends DJ sets with interviews from icons including Elton John, Jocelyn Brown, Jazzy Jeff, George Benson and David Morales. In December 2024, the 400th episode was recorded live at Defected’s East London HQ, underlining the scale the brand has reached.
A new chapter at Amnesia
The move to Amnesia feels deliberate. As one of Ibiza’s longest-standing clubs, its history and raw energy align naturally with Glitterbox’s desire to refocus on the dancefloor itself. Speaking about the move, CEO Wez Saunders described the opportunity to reset the experience and reconnect with the essence of clubbing, placing inclusivity, emotion and music back at the centre.
For Glitterbox, Fridays at Amnesia are not just a venue change. They represent a return to fundamentals, where the room, the crowd and the music work together to create moments that last long after the night ends.
After more than ten years shaping modern nightlife, Glitterbox continues to occupy a unique position in dance music culture. Not by chasing relevance, but by staying true to the simple idea that when the right music meets the right people, everything else fades away.
