A vibrant look inside the Berlin collective Toy Tonics who are reshaping the House scene in Europe.

Toy Tonics has released a brand new 20 minute documentary titled The World Of Toy Tonics, capturing the explosive rise of the Berlin based collective that has spent the last four years putting colour, warmth, and soul back into global dancefloors. The film arrives as the crew continues to shape a worldwide movement rooted in joyful house, creative freedom, and a vivid Y2K spirit that stands apart from the darker techno narrative often tied to Berlin.

Since launching their now famous Jam events, Toy Tonics has hosted more than 440 parties in 20 countries, drawing close to 350,000 dancers into their orbit. The parties are celebrated for their open minded, phone free atmosphere where people come to move, express themselves, and connect without distraction. The documentary arrives right at a point of creative momentum, with more than 160 Jams scheduled for 2025.

Directed by award winning filmmaker Manuel Werner, The World Of Toy Tonics charts the collective’s evolution from 300 capacity underground gatherings to regular takeovers at iconic rooms like Panorama Bar, REX in Paris, and London spaces such as Phonox and The Jazz Cafe. The story is told largely from the inside out, starting on the dancefloor and immersing viewers in the eclectic community that has gathered around the label. Art students, designers, young creatives, and DIY fashion heads all play their part in shaping the aesthetic that has made Toy Tonics instantly recognisable.

Beyond the club, the film explores how Toy Tonics has grown into a cross cultural hub. Their artwork, streetwear, and visual identity have led to collaborations with LN CC at London Fashion Week, pop up art events in Barcelona, Milan, and Berlin, and exhibitions at Villa Stuck in Munich and Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Since 2023 they have also hosted the official Design Week Milano party, drawing thousands of attendees.

Werner’s lens also turns toward the Toy Tonics studio in Berlin, giving a closer look at the producers, musicians, designers, and photographers who define the sound and aesthetic. The label’s sonic palette blends live band energy with electronic production, weaving elements of italo disco, afro funk, new wave, and neo soul into a vibrant, modern take on house music.

Founder Mathias Modica, who previously operated under the Munk moniker and ran the influential Y2K era label Gomma, provides context for the cultural shift he sees unfolding. With experience working alongside figures such as James Murphy, Peaches, Nancy Whang, and WhoMadeWho, Modica suggests that the dance world is entering a new chapter.

He explains in the film that the cycle feels similar to the early 2000s, when the dominance of techno and trance gave way to indie dance and a resurgence of bands. In his words, a new generation is seeking positivity, organic energy, kindness, and variety. Toy Tonics aims to provide that space, rooted in what Modica calls a human touch within electronic music.

That sense of humanity runs through everything the collective does. The documentary showcases a world that is colourful, celebratory, and proudly counter cultural. Wildstyle feels like the perfect description.
