Ron the don Trent and Jungle Wonz’ Harry Dennis released a vinyl only ‘Black Magic Woman’ EP that finally see’s the digital light of day.
Ron Trent and Joaquin “Joe” Claussell return under their Sacred Medicine banner with Black Magic Woman (The Revisions EP), a spellbinding deep house release that captures their shared focus on rhythm, spirituality and sonic depth. Originally a vinyl-only release, the EP now arrives in digital form, opening up one of the most transportive deep house projects of recent years to a wider audience.
At the core of the release is a collaboration between Trent and Harry Dennis of Jungle Wonz fame. The original versionis a hypnotic 8-minute journey at 82 BPM that blends Dennis’s distinctive spoken word with warm organ lines, cascading synths and an acid-tinged bassline that pulses with life. It feels both rooted in Chicago’s storytelling tradition and lifted by Trent’s flowing percussion and layered groove.
The standout comes with Joaquin’s Edits & Overdubs version, a near 15-minute voyage into cosmic deep house. Claussell stretches every element into a meditative, evolving experience, layering percussion, pads and subtle harmonics to create a true dancefloor journey. It unfolds with patience and purpose, pulling the listener in deeper with each movement.
CoFlo’s remix rounds off the EP with a smooth, soulful touch. His version adds fluid chord work and organic rhythm, keeping Dennis’s vocal presence intact while bringing a modern swing that fits perfectly with today’s deeper house sound.
Black Magic Woman (The Revisions EP) is a masterclass in depth and atmosphere, showcasing the strength of Sacred Medicine as a platform for truly spiritual house music. It is thoughtful, warm and endlessly playable, the kind of release that lingers long after the final note fades.
