Coflo channels his deep roots in dance and movement into a fearless four-tracker for Freerange Records.
Freerange Records has always had an ear for artists who bring something fresh to the table, and their latest signing is no exception. Bay Area producer, DJ, and dancer Coflo steps up with his debut for the label and delivers a heavyweight four-tracker that feels as raw as it does purposeful. A lifelong house dancer and student of Capoeira, his music carries a physicality that translates directly to the floor. It is rhythm-driven, human, and uncompromising.
Opening cut Yewnite sets the tone with a rugged groove that feels tailor-made for dark rooms and locked-in crowds. The filtering synths and gritty drum programming create a hypnotic pulse, while the vocodered vocal calls for unity in a way that nods to the past but stays firmly rooted in the now. This is underground house at its most stripped back and effective.
Things heat up with Who Da Frequency, where Rawb Boss brings fire to a track designed for peak-time moments. The lo-fi crunch of the drums, paired with the vocal swagger, delivers the kind of sweat-soaked energy that big systems thrive on. It is house funk with no polish, just attitude and power.
On Ring The Alarm the tempo and intensity shift gears. Channeling a Dance Mania spirit, the distorted bassline and alarm calls are brazen and unrelenting. With Rawb Boss once again on mic duties, it is a raw slice of hip-house energy that hits with 90s punch while keeping its modern edge.
Closing out, Yapperz strips everything back to the essentials. The shuffling, syncopated rhythm and metallic FM bassline create a deep tunnel vision groove, perfect for those 4am heads-down moments. It is relentless in its drive yet minimal in its design, proving Coflo’s versatility across the release.
Who The Frequency is a bold introduction to the Freerange catalogue from an artist carving his own lane. Coflo manages to fuse underground grit with dancer’s instinct, delivering a record that is both technically sharp and unashamedly raw. This is music built for the body, for the basement, and for the dancers who refuse to stand still.
