Amsterdam’s own D Stone makes his debut on Dam Swindle’s Heist Recordings with the Time Selection EP, and it is a release that confirms why so many in the scene are tipping him as one of house music’s brightest new names.
The list of DJs already championing his sound, including Chloe Caillet, Cinthie, SG Lewis, Demi Riquísimo, Folamour, Barry Can’t Swim and Dam Swindle themselves, tells its own story. Fresh off standout releases on Cecille and Cinthie’s 803 Crystal Grooves, plus upcoming drops on Smiile, Semi Delicious and Barry Can’t Swim’s Earth’s Only Paradise, D Stone is moving at pace. Despite the hype, the Time Selection EP proves he is not here to follow trends but to carve out his own lane.
Opener Yes I Am is a statement in stripped-back euphoria with piano stabs, playful vocal chops, 909 percussion and breezy retro flourishes. Move Over, featuring ELY, dips further into vintage territory, its bassline and drum programming nodding to both New Order’s electro-pop pulse and Mr. Fingers’ futurism. The title track Time Selection is the record’s heavyweight moment, with pounding drums, a surging piano riff and shimmering disco accents that make it a peak-time weapon.
On the flip, One Thing leans on a bouncing disco bassline and a hook so deceptively silly it becomes addictive. Closer Everything From The Organ pulls no punches, throwing rave-ready organs, chopped vocals and horns into the mix to channel raw 90s warehouse energy with a modern edge.
With Time Selection, D Stone shows he is not just one to watch but already a fully formed artist ready to take over the floors that matter. Heist Recordings is the perfect home for this moment, and judging by his packed release schedule and tour diary, this is only the beginning.
