Soul II Soul’s 1990 anthem “A Dream’s A Dream” returns with a powerful new perspective courtesy of Ron Trent.

A defining anthem of the early ’90s, Soul II Soul’s “A Dream’s A Dream” has long stood as a symbol of musical vision and community strength. It captured the optimism and ambition of UK sound system culture at its peak. Now, over three decades later, it’s given a new lease of life by one of deep house’s most revered architects, Ron Trent.

Fresh from taking home Best DJ Set of 2024, Ron Trent delivers a reimagining that is both respectful and revelatory. His remix doesn’t aim to outshine the original. Instead, it honours it, reframing Jazzie B’s message through the warmth and richness of Trent’s Chicago-rooted sensibility. This is deep house in its purest form: hypnotic, soulful and endlessly inviting.

From the jump, the percussion is earthy and fluid, rolling with a looseness that echoes classic Prescription-era grooves. The bassline is steady but unhurried, allowing the textures to swirl above. Light pads, subtle strings and hints of dubby echo nod back to Soul II Soul’s sound system heritage. The vocal is treated with reverence, its dream-state mantra floating through the mix like a guide across decades.

The magic here lies in Ron Trent’s ability to create a timeless space between organic soul and electronic depth. It’s the type of remix that fits a late-night radio show or the second hour of a deep session. Made for selectors who understand patience and presence.

Out soon on Funki Dred Records as an exclusive vinyl release, this rework adds another essential chapter to the evolving story of Soul II Soul. It is not just a remix. It is a conversation between generations, proof that dreams do not fade, they just evolve with new rhythm.

Digital release date is set for 15th August and vinyl is seemingly already sold out. Pre order here.
