Max Sinàl and KingCrowney’s Intentions was already a standout moment for Soul Quest Records and now Frits Wentink, JT Donaldson and Flying Moth deliver some remixes.
Soul Quest Records returns with a remix package that celebrates one of its most soulful and emotionally rich releases to date. ‘Intentions’, originally crafted by label head Max Sinàl and long-time collaborator KingCrowney, features a stunning vocal from Liv East. Here it gets reimagined through the ears of some of the finest selectors and musicians in the deep house space.
The original version, released earlier this year, was a warm and expressive piece of modern soul-infused house. Built on gently rolling percussion and velvet-smooth chord work, the track offered a moment of calm introspection without losing its forward momentum. Liv East’s vocal is the magic touch, soft and glowing, floating above the groove with effortless elegance.
Now with this remix package, ‘Intentions’ opens up even further. The new versions reveal fresh depths and textures while keeping the heart of the track intact.
Dutch producer Frits Wentink kicks things off with a version that shifts the track firmly into club territory. His rework maintains the emotion but adds a tighter, more mechanical framework with shuffling drums, bouncing low-end and layers of looping chords that build tension and release. Wentink’s off-kilter groove adds just the right dose of dancefloor energy.
JT Donaldson follows with two polished reinterpretations. The first is a smooth, late-night roller built around a warm, rubbery bassline and crisp drums. It keeps Liv East’s vocal front and centre while subtly reshaping the mood. The Dub version strips things back further, allowing the instrumental to carry more weight. Both mixes showcase Donaldson’s deep understanding of soulful, groove-led house.
Flying Moth offers the most left-leaning approach on the package. His remix leans into broken beat and ambient textures, with skipping drums and layers of atmospheric detail. Liv East’s voice is used more sparingly here, processed into dreamy fragments that drift across the mix. It’s immersive and hypnotic, perfect for deeper listening.
Closing things out is a beautifully arranged live version. Swapping out programmed beats for live drums, guitar, brass and keys, the track takes on new life. Liv East’s vocal feels even more personal in this setting, sitting gently above a lush instrumental backdrop. It’s a powerful reminder that ‘Intentions’ stands strong even beyond the dancefloor.
This remix collection strengthens ‘Intentions’ as a key release in the Soul Quest catalogue. Each version highlights a different emotional shade of the original while standing firmly on its own. It’s a deep, rewarding listen that will no doubt stand the test of time.
The ‘Intentions’ remix package is due to be released on Digital on the 20th June 2025 with Vinyl landing 27th June 2025, pre order on Juno here.
