Northern powerhouse Mark Jenkyns returns to Jamie Jones’ Hot Creations this March with three original cuts that feature Sheff and Mizbee as well as a remix from Inxec.
Born in South Shields in the Northern quarter of the UK, Mark Jenkyns has been a staple of the underground scene for the last few years. Landing on labels like Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations, Resonance and VIVa Music, Jenkyns has proved his worth not only in the studio but behind the booths in some of the worlds greatest clubs like Sankeys Ibiza and Paradise at DC10.
This new EP ‘Soulfood’ opens up with ‘Questions’ that features the vocal of Midlands-born Sheff. Perfectly suited for the Hot Creations vibe, this energetic, percussive-led house sound is full of raw, bubbling bass lines and sharp synth stabs that pierce the climatic snare fills. The vocal is hypnotic and although this is the first time we’ve head the vocal of Sheff who is described as a modern-day ‘Egyptian lover meets P-Diddy’, we’re looking forward to hearing more from the now London-based artist.
Next is title-track ‘Soulfood’ that see’s the introduction of long-time collaborator Mizbee. This jerky house beat is perfectly suited for the northern mc and she drapes her vocal over Mark’s looping groove.
‘Heated’ is next. Here Mizbee’s soulful tones really take the limelight. Wrapped up in delving piano chords and loose drum hits, the vocal sits perfectly within the mix as a building tension begins to shape, creating beautiful sounds that will excite dance floors and terraces no doubt.
Nottingham-based producer Inxec offers up a more direct remix of ‘Questions’ to round off this impressive EP. Robust 4/4 drums provide the foundation for this tech house sound that features slick percussion, whirring synth builds and strong, bright stabs that ignite the soundscape.
Overall this is another strong EP from Jenkyns, one we’re sure we’ll hear a lot of over the coming warm months. When asked about the EP Mark said “I feel this EP is food for the soul, it has something for everyone, grooves a plenty and jam-packed full of great vibes!”, enough said!
The ‘Soul Food’ EP will land on Hot Creations from March 16th, 2018. No previews as of yet so sit back and enjoy Mark in the mix below in the meantime.
