Gorgon City are back on the KOTT stereo this December with ‘Grooves On The Vinyl’ set for release on Realm with a remix from Mr Paul Woolford included.
The London-based duo of Gorgon City have already met heady heights in their young career with tracks like ‘Ready For Your Love’ and ‘Here For You’. Recording with artists like Wyclef Jean, Duke Dumont, Elderbrook, Katy B and MNEK, the lads certainly have an ear for a good strong dance floor weapon but this new EP on their new label Realm also shows they still have a thirst for the underground sounds.
The original mix of the title-track is a shuffling house groove filled with looping bass lines and some cool fx stabs. The spoken vocal is a real hypnotic affair leading the track into quality breaks and big drops that introduce whirring synth chords and hectic chatter. The Paul Woolford remix of this track is a little subdued for a Wooly remix we thought, all though it is a nice burner with some cool re-worked drums that sound 90’s inspired.
The next original is ‘Trouble’ this stripped-back house groove focuses on mind melting bass lines and slick 4/4 drum arrangements. High lined synth chords break the rolling groove whilst airy, reverb filled rises do the work for them hands in the air moments.
‘Get Together’ closes the EP and it’s probably our favourite of the bunch. Well thought out mystical lead synths flavour tough, chunky drum lines whilst glitchy underpinned synths create loads of dramatic moods coupled with some pretty special lush string samples. A very nice workout from the Gorgon City lads.
