Yorkshireman Steve Jones returns to the Midnight Social Recordings fold this April with a strong three-track EP entitled ‘House Lab’.
The Leeds-based dj/producer Steve Jones returns to Carlo Gambino’s Midnight Social Recordings this April furthering his involvement with the established Leeds-founded label. Jones has been heavily involved with Leeds-based night ‘Dirty Disco’ since 2005 and was fortunate to be included when MSR joined the lineup at Carl Cox’s finale season at Space Ibiza.
This new EP opens with title-track ‘House Lab’ is a head down house groove laden with low-slung bass lines, airy fx washes, nice rhythmic wood percussion and simple organ melodies. Crafted perfectly with decent breaks and builds, this is the highlight of the EP for us.
‘Divided Souls’ brings a more groove-led vibe with wah-like synth modulations, percussive-led drum sequences and bright, staccato key melodies. Throw in a couple of contrasting vocal lines and this one will control floors.
Next is ‘At Me’ a delicious, late-night groove that brings together bulbous, metallic bass lines, knitted drum 4/4 patterns and demented vocal chatter.
As Midnight Social Recordings heads towards its fiftieth release, this EP from Steve Jones continues to set the bar high.
The ‘House Lab’ EP will land on MSR from the 12th May, 2017.
