Route 94 – Mind, Body & Soul EP (Crosstown Rebels)

Route 94

Route 94 debuts on Crosstown Rebels this March with his ‘Mind, Body & Soul, EP that features Matt Tolfrey and a remix from the legendary Joe Claussell.

Rowan Tyler Jones better known as his stage name Route 94 is a London-born producer/Dj that came to prominence in 2013 with the hit ‘My Love’ that featured the vocals of then little known Jess Glynne. The house smash quickly was put to bed by Route 94 and his sound became more deep very quickly as he submerged himself into deeper, underground releases. He further appeared on labels like Leftroom, Hot Creations and Defected and now he finds himself in the sweet position to be releasing on Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels.

The EP opens with title-track ‘Mind, Body & Soul’ a late night drum workout that heads straight into deeper house sounds. Looping male vocals caress the layered drum patterns that rattle enthusiastically whilst doom-like tones begin to ring out signalling the entrance of ethereal keys that take the cut to a higher plane. Superb music.

‘Habitual’ see’s Route 94 team up with fellow Londoner Matt Tolfrey for a cool bass-led sound that strikes rich in the groove sense. Modulated synths, skipping percussion and a cool vocal all play a part in this intense house cut that really will work floors. Another quality track we loved.

Finally and as the quote goes it saves the best for last in our humble opinion. Mr Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell the Brooklyn-born iconic house producer/Dj steps up to remix ‘Mind,Body & Soul’. Founding labels like Spiritual Life Music and Ibadan Records as well as been a resident at one of the most influential parties ‘Body & Soul’ in NYC alongside Danny Krivit and Francois K, Claussell is a true pioneer of the house music scene. His remix is a deep, jazz-tinged house groove that features wondrous brass melodies, heavenly fx lines and soft Rhodes keys that all come together to create a sheer pleasure to listen to. Bravo, Mr Claussell and all involved, a masterpiece.

“We are much more than we experience, feel and see in our physical states now. Is there even such a thing as time and everything just happens at once in the universe? This is the Mind, the Body and the Soul.”  Route 94

The ‘Mind, Body & Soul’ EP lands on Crosstown Rebels from the 31st March, 2017.
