Josh Butler closes his inspired ‘Heroes of House’ series with volume 3 that features excellent remixes of Robert Owens’ ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’ and Bontan steps up to join the proceedings for ‘Call You Back’.
UK producer/Dj Josh Butler has rounded off his ‘Heroes of House’ series that has seen the likes of Todd Terry, Darius Syrossian, Santé and Marshall Jefferson all play a part in creating remixes of classics as well as new original tracks that have sent our pulses into overdrive.
When we saw legendary American vocalist Robert Owens on the tracklist, we for a second thought oh hell no, their not going to take on one of house music’s most iconic anthems, well they certainly have and justice has been done.
The ‘Origins’ remix of ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’ see’s Josh deliver a darker, contemporary version of the 1992 classic. Bringing pulsing tones, slick yet tougher drum lines blended with the delicate pads from the original and of course Robert’s gorgeous vocal that oozes emotive soul, this is a modern take on a classic that actually works. There’s also a dub version included.
On the flip is ‘Call You Back’ an original track that see’s Butler collaborate with good friend Bontan. The pair still can boast they produced one of the biggest modern-day house anthems by the way of ”Got A Feeling’ and this new cut see’s the two again compliment each others style perfectly. This relentless groove see’s fiery sub-bass lines, stabbing synths and a simple female hook all combine to create a very decent peak time roller.
